Theo Pinto’s new solo exhibition in Abu Dhabi is an exploration of the UAE’s natural landscape, using the shifting sand dunes as a central metaphor for the ever-changing forces of nature. Much like the sky and ocean, the dunes are alive, constantly evolving under the influence of wind and time. Pinto captures this transient beauty in his abstract color fields, drawing from the golden hues of the desert sunset as it reflects off the endless expanses of sand.
The installation itself becomes part of the desert’s story. In a poignant gesture, Theo transported his paintings to the ghost town of Al Madam, where the abandoned homes have been overtaken by the elements. The contrast between the vibrant, living colors of his compositions and the decaying, sand-filled interiors of these forgotten structures creates a striking dialogue between human creation and nature’s reclamation. By transforming these deserted homes into an ephemeral gallery, Theo invites viewers to reflect on the passage of time, the resilience of the landscape, and the delicate balance between permanence and impermanence.
In Between Sand and Sky, Theo Pinto’s work serves as a tribute to the beauty, fragility, and enduring power of the desert, capturing the UAE’s landscape not just as a backdrop, but as a living, breathing entity that shapes and informs his art.
